Cross Creek Grown
We Know Them Because We Grow Them
If you’ve ever shopped with us at Cross Creek Nursery, you’ve probably heard us say, “We know ’em because we grow ’em.”
And we truly mean that.
We’re not just a garden center bringing in truckloads of plants from all over the country. A huge portion of what you see on our benches and in our tree yard is grown right here in Central Virginia, by our own team.
And that makes all the difference.
Grown Right Here at Home
We’re proud to grow across three local production locations. All within reach of the same community we serve.
Nottoway County – Trees & Shrubs
Out in Nottoway County, we have nearly 100 acres dedicated to growing trees and shrubs. It’s wide open space, long rows, and a whole lot of care. From sturdy shade trees to flowering shrubs, these plants are grown with our Central Virginia climate in mind, hot summers, clay soil, and all.
Hanover County – Perennials, Groundcover & Annuals
Up in Hanover County, just north of the James River, another part of our production team grows groundcover, perennials, and annuals. These are the plants that fill in your landscapes, come back year after year, and keep your yard looking full and colorful.
Midlothian – Annuals & Poinsettias
At our Midlothian Nursery, we grow many of our annual flowers right on site: plus our well-known poinsettia crop each holiday season. If you’ve ever grabbed vibrant spring color or one of our Christmas poinsettias, there’s a good chance it was grown just steps away.
Why Growing Locally Matters
Central Virginia isn’t the easiest place to garden. Between humidity, summer heat, surprise cold snaps, and heavy clay soil, plants have to be tough.
Because we grow locally:
-
Our plants are already acclimated to this region
-
They’re used to our weather swings
-
They’re grown for performance here, not somewhere else
-
We can offer unique varieties and larger quantities for contractors and local businesses
When plants travel less, they’re less stressed. When they’re grown here, they’re stronger. It’s that simple.
From Our Fields to Our Garden Centers
Here’s the part we love most.
When you walk into our locations in Midlothian or the West End area of Richmond, you’re talking to people who genuinely know these plants.
Not just from a tag. Not just from a catalog.
We’ve watched them grow.
As a grower and retailer, we can tell you:
-
Which hydrangea handles our heat best
-
What thrives in heavy clay
-
What deer tend to leave alone
-
Which annuals will bloom the longest
Because we’ve grown them from seed, cuttings, or plugs ourselves.
It’s About Community
Growing locally means we’re investing right back into our own backyard, supporting jobs in Hanover County and Nottoway County, supplying plants for local landscapes, and helping Central Virginia gardens thrive.
When you shop with us, you’re not just buying plants.
You’re supporting local growers.
You’re planting something raised close to home.
You’re growing alongside your community.
We Know ’Em Because We Grow ’Em
At the end of the day, that’s what Cross Creek Grown is all about.
We’ve planted them.
We’ve watered them.
We’ve watched them push new growth.
So when you take one home, we can confidently say:
We know ’em — because we grow ’em. 🌱
