This annual is a fabulous no maintenance plant that thrives in the hot and humid summer weather.  Sporting glossy, green leaves and colorful flowers this plants wing shaped leaves can grow up to 8 inches long to support the cluster of scarlet flowers from spring until first frost.   It performs best in partial shade, out of the hot afternoon sun is in an area that offers good air circulation, and protection from strong winds.  Water regularly enough to keep the soil moist but make sure not to let the roots stay wet, potentially causing root rot.
