Keep the sod in a cool or shaded area before you lay it. Try to lay sod within 8 hours of pick-up time. Make sure the soil you lay it on is damp and not parched dry.
Lay the first line of sod fashion. (That means the end seams will not be all in the same line) Stake sod if it's laid on an extremely steep slope. It is best if you use a board to kneel on instead of the freshly laid sod as you work.
Roll the newly laid sod with a roller which is only half filled with water.
Saturate the sod and the soil with water, wetting the soil to a 4" depth or more (6-8 inches is ideal).
NOTE: If you are just patching up areas with sod, you will have to remove an inch of soil so the new sod is level with the old.
